Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday ahead of Modi’s upcoming visit to China — his first in seven years. Modi will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1, where he is expected to hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Wang Yi will arrive in New Delhi on Monday for a three-day visit during which he will engage in talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The foreign ministers’ dialogue is set for Monday evening, followed by the 24th round of Special Representatives talks on the boundary issue between Wang and Doval on Tuesday morning.
Wang’s meeting with PM Modi is scheduled for 5:30 PM on Tuesday, where he is expected to brief the Prime Minister on the SCO summit agenda and recent developments in Sino-Indian relations. Wang and Jaishankar will also collaborate to finalize the agenda for the upcoming Modi-Xi bilateral meeting. An announcement regarding the resumption of direct flights between India and China is anticipated soon, indicating steps toward normalization of ties.
