A Delhi court on Thursday remanded Rajesh Khimji, accused of assaulting Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, to five days of police custody. The incident occurred during a public grievance hearing, or Jan Sunvai, in the capital on Wednesday.
According to officials, Khimji, a Rajkot resident, was apprehended immediately after the attack and produced before the court earlier today. Investigators requested his remand to uncover the motive and circumstances that led to the assault.
The confrontation took place while the chief minister was interacting with citizens as part of her outreach initiative, officials said. Sources confirmed that security protocols of such public meetings are also under review following the incident.
