Supreme Court judge Justice Vikram Nath has said that the world has started recognizing him because of the stray dog case. He thanked Chief Justice of India BR Gavai for assigning this case to him. He said, till now I was known only for working in the field of law. But I am very grateful for the dog case because the whole world has recognized me because of it. Justice Nath attended a program organized in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on the problems arising between humans and animals, where many people asked him questions about the dog case. Justice Nath said that I get messages that apart from dog lovers, dogs are also blessing me.
Earlier, on the problem of stray dogs in the capital Delhi, the bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan of the Supreme Court had ordered on August 11 that stray dogs in Delhi should be caught and shifted to shelter homes. After this, animal rights activists and dog lovers started opposing the decision. The CJI referred the case to a three-judge bench headed by Justice Nath.
A three-judge bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath Nath along with Justices Sandeep Mehta and NV Anjaria gave a modified verdict on August 22 that the dogs should be released back to the shelter home from where they were brought after vaccinating and deworming them.
