Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra finished as the runner-up for the third consecutive year at the Diamond League Final, as Germany’s Julian Weber delivered a commanding performance with two throws over 90 meters to clinch his maiden title.
In a rare off-day for the 27-year-old Olympic and World medalist, Chopra’s best throw was a modest 85.01m, which he managed on his final attempt to secure second place and edge past Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott (84.95m). The normally consistent Indian athlete, known for his 88m-plus throws, struggled with his rhythm, recording three foul attempts.
The night, however, belonged to Weber, who established his dominance from the outset. The German launched a world-leading and personal best throw of 91.57m in his second attempt, building on his opening throw of 91.37m. His winning effort was more than six meters clear of Chopra’s best, making it a one-man show in the seven-man field.
Despite the result, Chopra remains focused on his next major challenge: the World Championships in Tokyo, where he will defend his title.
